4 Critical Parts of an Air Conditioning System

Did you know that air conditioners have been in our homes since 1902? It has been an essential equipment and a necessity for every homeowner. However, some people don’t even bother to learn about their air conditioning systems.

Knowing what makes up your cooling system will help you determine if it is efficiently running as it should. So, here’s a list of 4 critical parts of your A/C that we have compiled for you.

Evaporator

This component is located in the cold part of the air conditioner. Its main job is to collect the liquid refrigerant and vaporize it into gas, which then cools and dehumidifies the air indoors. The gas absorbs all of the air’s heat and then takes it to the condenser ready for the next process.

Expansion Valve

The expansion valve works with the evaporator. However, it is usually located between the condenser and the evaporator. Its function is to control the refrigerant that travels into the evaporator until it becomes gas.

Condenser

The condenser is the counterpart of the evaporator—it is located in the hot part of your cooling system. Its job is to bring the hot, condensed refrigerant gas back outside to vent the heat and revert the refrigerant into a liquid form.

Compressor

This part is like a big electric pump that goes hand in hand with the condenser to turn the refrigerant back to liquid. The compressor does this by pressurizing the refrigerant gas. It is also located on the hot side of the A/C with the condenser.

Having a basic understanding of your A/C and its components will help you figure out if there is something wrong with it. Furthermore, it will also help you decide whether or not to hire a professional.
